Lillian E. Gray, 95, of Big Spring died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with the Rev. Sharon Wiese officiating and her great-grandson, Joshua Bishop, assisting.
Garry Leon Sikes, 66, of Florida, formerly of Big Spring died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, in Florida. No services are planned.
As city officials continue efforts to bring revisions to the municipality's charter to local voters in May, many area residents may be asking themselves with one very important question: what are initiatives and referendums?
Brought to the Big Spring City Council by newly-elected Mayor Tommy Duncan, the city staff has been asked to research the possible use of term limits, initiatives and referendums in the Crossroads area.
Howard County commissioners approved a 90-day burn ban Monday morning as the amount of dry grass and brush — coupled with high winds — threatens to turn the Crossroads area into a tinder box.
The court approved the ban by a unanimous vote after County Volunteer Fire Chief Tommy Sullivan explained the danger posed by reckless burning in the area.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• LOGAN EARL ROSE, 28, of 1509 Stadium, was arrested Monday on a charge of disorderly conduct – fighting.
• PHILLIP JON ROSE, 27, of 1614 E. 15th St., was arrested Monday on a charge of disorderly conduct – fighting.
• JOHN THOMAS MARTINEZ, 24, of 4203 Wasson Rd., was arrested Monday on charges of assault – family violence and assault by contact.
• ALFONSO VERGARA-HERNANDEZ, 47, of 208 E. 17th St., was arrested Monday on a charge of unlawful restraint.
