Family viewing and visitation will be held at Myers & Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Services will be held at Myers & Smith Chapel at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010. Laura will be laid to rest next to her father, Thomas Wingo, at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Humble at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010.
Olga Hernandez, 55, of Big Spring, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Viola Higgins Shortes, 96, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, in a Sterling City nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. R.T. Havener officiating.
Helen M. Bagnall, 87, of Big Spring, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in a local nursing home. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Marie Saldivar, 88, of Big Spring, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at her residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Earnestine Cain Winterrowd, 90, of Big Spring, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in a local hospital. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
The property damage trial pitting three Crossroads residents against oil giant Alon USA continued in 118th District Court today, with the case expected to be handed to the jury sometime this morning or afternoon.
According to court officials, the case â€” which began Monday with jury selection â€” was brought by local residents Beverly Smithie and Ron and Debra Walker, who allegedly sustained property damage in February 2008 when an explosion ripped through the Big Spring refinery, sending a shock wave through the community.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
â€¢ TIFFANY ANN ELDER, 28, of New Mexico, was arrested Thursday on warrants for public intoxication, failure to appear (two counts), no driver's license â€“ when unlicensed, failure to maintain financial responsibility and consumption of alcohol by a minor.
â€¢ INEZ GUTIERREZ ZAVALA, 30, of 208 Circle, was arrested Thursday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid â€“ no insurance.
Separate accidents Wednesday left one Big Spring resident dead and two in serious but stable condition in area hospitals.
The fatal accident occurred late Wednesday in the 1700 block of Gregg Street. Big Spring Police Department officers responding to the scene discovered that 2007 Saturn driven by Gabriel Paredez, 23, of Big Spring, had struck a traffic signal pole at the intersection of 17th and Gregg.
