Winkler County Attorney Scott Tidwell was found guilty of charges of two counts each of misuse of official information, official oppression and retaliation in 118th District Court Monday, with sentencing in the case expected to begin today.
A horse of many colors is what the Big Spring Family Aquatic Center has turned out to be.
During the summer, families were able to enjoy swim time and now the pool has closed, the city is still putting it to use. Big Spring Fire Department recently held rapid water rescue training at the facility.
“We try to do these trainings as often as possible, but lately we haven’t really had a suitable facility and now that we do, we are putting it to use,” Lt. Craig Ferguson said.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ JAMERE RAYSHAD COOPER, 23, of 500 S. Goliad, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for failure to appear (two counts).
â€˘ KELLY PHILLIPS, 50, of 1904 E. 25th St. Apt. 208, was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ CRIMINAL TRESPASS was reported in the 700 block of E. 11th Place.
â€˘ ASSAULT was reported:
In the 1400 block of E. Sixth Street.
In the 2500 block of Cindy Lane.
â€˘ THEFT was reported in the 800 block of Culp Avenue.
Jimmy Grant, 66, of Big Spring died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at Coahoma Cemetery with Chaplain Lynn Robertson of Compass Hospice officiating.
He was born Sept. 13, 1945, in Devine, Texas, to Gertrude and Albert Grant. He has been a lifetime resident of Howard County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from October 1964 until September 1967. He was a Baptist.
Phyllis Pettigrew Sparks, 88, of Cedar Park, formerly of Big Spring died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, in a Cedar Park nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at the funeral home.
Jerry Neil Easterling, 75, of Big Spring died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park with full military honors.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
The Big Spring Steers broke their normal pattern in Friday night's homecoming loss to Greenwood, playing what coach Ritchey called the best second half they have played all year. Unfortunately for the Steer nation, mistakes in the first half proved to be too much to overcome as the Black and Gold fell 35-14.
