Thelma Fern Smith

Thelma Fern Smith, 88, of Big Spring died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Monroe Teeters officiating.

She was born April 3, 1923, in Norman, Okla., and married Fred Andrew Smith on Sept. 7, 1943, in Granada, Miss. He preceded her in death June 18, 1988.

She worked as a housekeeper for various people for many years and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Zayda Stallings

Zayda Stallings, 4, of Big Spring died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, in Lubbock. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel.

She was born Sept. 11, 2007, in Midland, Texas, to Renea and Kenny Stallings. She was a lifetime resident of Big Spring.

Forsan falls to Stanton

FORSAN — In a surprising display of defensive fortitude, The Stanton Buffaloes have caught up with the Forsan Buffaloes in the playoff race after defeating their district rivals 23-13 Friday night.

Unfortunately for both squads the tie is for fourth place in the district. Stanton and Forsan both stand at 2-3 in district play behind Hawley (3-2). Of course, Idalou and Coahoma are sitting pretty on top of the district, both without a district loss, but that will change Friday night when the two teams meet for the district championship.

The Forsan High School Buffaloes and Miles Bulldogs will get the playoff atmosphere started a bit...
