The lights are up and flashing on FM 700 and Wasson Road.
For those traveling down FM 700, starting next week there will be an added stop along the way. Traffic signals have been placed at the intersection in order to create a better flow of traffic.
“The city traffic commission requested we do a study on the intersection and see if it warranted a traffic signal,” said Texas Department of Transportation maintenance supervisor James Gilbert.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• RILEY ERIK WOOD, 19, of 605 Highland Dr., was arrested Thursday on charges of consumption of alcohol by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• JUSTIN WILLIAM GONZALES, 18, of 1112 Mulberry, was arrested Thursday on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.
• MIGUEL ANTONIO ARENIVAZ JR., 22, of 3304 W. Highway 80 Apt. 23A, was arrested Thursday on a charge of possession of marijuana – two ounces or less.
Corinne Denton went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Nov. 2, 2011. She was born in Big Spring, Texas, on Dec. 30, 1921, to Joseph and Beatrice Mittel. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1939 and was married to James W. Denton in April of 1940. She gave birth to her first daughter in June of 1944 and her second daughter in August of 1953.
Johnnye Bell Marsalis went to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 2, 2011, at a care center in Abilene, Texas.
Johnnye was born to John Clifford and Fannie Hinson Bell on Nov. 12, 1922, in Copiah County, Miss. She attended Crystal Spring, Miss., schools, where she graduated valedictorian of her senior class. She attended Draughn Business College in Jackson, Miss., and then worked as a bookkeeper in Jackson, Miss., and Tennessee. She later worked civil service jobs in accounting at Greenville AFB in Mississippi and Webb AFB in Big Spring, Texas.
Bernice L. Jones, 90, of Camdenton, Mo., formerly of Big Spring died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, in a nursing home in Camdenton, Mo. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time.
She was born May 22, 1921, in Big Spring, Texas, and married Eluid Amesworth Jones in 1938 in Big Spring, Texas. He preceded her in death April 4, 1997.
Leroy Perkins, 79, of Big Spring passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Kristi Lee Manor in Colorado City, Texas, following a fatal prognosis over the last month. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Thomas L. Guess Jr. was born March 16, 1928, and died Oct. 31, 2011, in his home. He was born in Grenada, Miss., but had been a member of the Big Spring Community for 43 years.
Mike D. Williams, 39, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Holston Banks Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
