Early voting in this yearâs constitutional amendment election wrapped up Friday with vote tallies falling just shy of results from the previous amendment contest two years ago, according to Howard County election officials.
Approximately 275 ballots were cast â including mail-in ballots â according to County Elections Administrator Saundra Bloom, putting the election on track to come close to the 600-plus ballots cast in the 2009 contest.

Veterans Day, also known as Remembrance Day, is Nov. 11 and Nora Hernandez is â for the fifth year â organizing a special service for those veterans buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Howard County commissioners will hold a special meeting Monday to review proposals for the position of construction manager at-risk for the joint law enforcement project.
Commissioners are expected to review proposals from approximately five different companies, according to County Judge Mark Barr, as the court looks to move forward with the facility that will soon house both the County Sheriffâs Office and the Big Spring Police Department.

Darrell L. Trotter, 86, of Big Spring, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, in a Big Spring hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Mary Elizabeth âMollyâ Hefner Walls went to her heavenly reward on Oct. 30, 2011 at home after a long battle with cancer.
She was born to Sam and Doreen Hefner on Sept. 21, 1946 in Big Spring. She attended Big Spring schools and graduated from BSHS in 1964.
She married Dan Walls on Sept. 17, 1965, in Dallas.
She is survived by her husband and five children, Brenda Campagna of Dallas, Pam Borio of Philadelphia, Pa., Steven Walls of Mesquite, Pam Walls of Mesquite and Mike Walls of Little Elm; and eight grandchildren.
Mike D. Williams, 39, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Holston Banks Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Branson Curtis Moore, infant son of Brandon Moore of Knoxville, Tenn., and Vanna Gaston of Forsan, Texas, passed away on his birthday, Oct. 31, 2011. He weighed five pounds and four ounces and was 18 inches long.
Charles Barbee, 81, of Big Spring died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at College Baptist Church with Pastor Ken McMeans officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
