No. 24 Steers face speedy Snyder team

January 21, 2011

Big Spring center Devante Lloyd applied one of the sayings from football head coach Phillip Ritchey to the Steers’ basketball season so far.

“Coach Ritchey once said ‘Once you catch fire, there’s no telling how far you’ll go,’” Lloyd said. “So that’s the way I see it. We have two wins in district so we caught fire. We’re just going to keep going from there.”

How on fire are the Steers? It’s early, but they’re 2-0 in District 5-3A play and ranked No. 24 in the state according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ rankings.

BSHS ready for District 4-4A swim meet

January 21, 2011

The Big Spring swimming team may have something to prove at today’s District 4-4A meet.

In a district with powerhouses such as Monahans and Pecos, the Steers are looking to make a name for themselves today at the Jerry Larned Sports Complex in Monahans.

“For a lot of them, this is their first year,” BSHS swimming coach Mackenzie Miles said. “They want to make a name for themselves. What’s most important to me is that the one who don’t get to move on to regionals, that they’re able to be most successful at this meet and get their best times.”
