The local Emergency Services Chaplains Corps is looking for a few good men and women to lend a hand — and a shoulder — when tragedy strikes in the Crossroads area.
Chaplain Joel Miller, who handles the training of prospective chaplains in the program, said the group is looking for area volunteers to help fill the gaps sometimes left amidst tragic situations.
Anticipating a shortage of water in the coming months, Big Spring City Council on Tuesday approved first reading of a resolution supporting and participating in a regional water education and conservation program developed and implemented by the Colorado River Municipal Water District.
Talks between CRMWD and its member cities have been ongoing for some time now, centering around water conservation heading into the coming summer.
With barely a quorum, the Big Spring City Council approved a measure Tuesday night that could save the municipality thousands of dollars in the coming years on general obligation bonds.
The council — with members Stephanie Horton (District 1), Manuel Ramirez Jr. (District 2) and Terry Hansen (District 6) absent — approved the ordinance on a unanimous vote, giving the city administration the go-ahead to refinance bonds in an effort to take advantage of lower interest rates.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• MARIO ILDEFONSO SALAZAR, 21, of 1604 E. 11th Place, was arrested Monday on a charge of burglary of a habitation – assault.
• TAMMIE KAY ROGERS, 30, of 3410 Sherrod, was arrested Monday on a warrant for disregarding a stop sign.
• KODY CHANCE JACKSON, 25, of 3217 Fenn, was arrested Monday on warrants for speeding, failure to appear (four counts), no inspection certificate, driving while license invalid and expired license plate.
Letha Margaret Nunley, 89, passed away Feb. 6, 2011, at Hospice House in Odessa. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, located at 7601 N. Grandview in Odessa. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Highway 80 in Odessa.
Vevagene "MeMa" Williams, 78, of San Angelo, formerly of Big Spring, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Calvary Callender, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, officiating.
SAN ANGELO — James P. Washburn, 72, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at his residence. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 8 and 9, 2011, at the funeral home. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Pioneer Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home/Grape Creek.
