Lola V. Rodriguez, 75, of Big Spring, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at her residence. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday:
• TYLER WAYLAN SMITH, 17, of 3312 Auburn Avenue was arrested Friday on a charge of tampering/fabricating physical evidence.
• THEFT was reported in the 900 block of Rosemont St.
•In the 300 block of Main St.
•In the 1600 block of Bluebird.
•In the 300 block of Tulane Avenue.
• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 1200 block of E. 11th Place.

Federal grand jury indicts Big Spring man

A federal grand jury in Lubbock returned an indictment late Wednesday, charging Big Spring resident Douglas W. Arnold Jr., with one count of failing to register as a sex offender.

Arnold has been in custody since his arrest by the U.S. Marshals Service late last month.

Some nightmares last years, but they all eventually end.

Laura Proctor's nightmare was a parent's worst — her 9-year-old daughter, Christie, was abducted and murdered in the 1980s — and the ramifications lasted for more than a decade.

Proctor, a Big Spring native, wrote about her figurative trip to hell and back in “Desperate Enough To Win,” and will sign copies of her book Saturday in Big Spring Mall.

BSISD to begin campus demolition

The first outward sign of Big Spring Independent School District construction projects will soon be evident.

During their Thursday meeting, BSISD trustees approved a bid of slightly less than $200,000 to demolish the old College Heights Elementary building, the first of a myriad of projects that will keep contractors and construction workers busy for most of the next two years.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• CEDRIC RAY JEFFERSON, 49, of 2911 W. Highway 80 Apt. 204, was arrested Thursday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.
• TODD WILLIAM COKER, 19, of 210 Moore Rd., was arrested Thursday on warrants for driving while license invalid (two counts), disobeying an official traffic device, failure to appear (9 counts) and three warrants from another agency.
