Tigers swamp Steers

The old saying goes that sometimes, you have to bow to the obvious — and it was obvious Tuesday night that the Snyder Tigers are a very good baseball team.

The Tigers dominated all phases of their district opener vs. Big Spring, running away with an 11-0 run rule victory over the Steers in Steer Park Tuesday evening.

Lady Steers fall to Snyder

The Big Spring Lady Steers would like to have a few innings back from their game against Snyder Tuesday afternoon.

Big Spring jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, then watched as that advantage vanished under an avalanche of Lady Tiger runs during the course of an 11-4 Snyder victory in District 5-3A softball action at the Big Spring ISD softball complex.

The Lady Steers (13-14 overall, 1-1 in district action) scored the game's first two runs in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of four Snyder errors in the process.

Legal opinion posted on city issue

After several days of poring over and researching the municipal charter amendment submitted by way of petition by local citizens, City Attorney Linda Sjogren issued her legal opinion on the document Monday, which she says contains several inconsistencies in language.

Steve Campbell, member of the Concerned Citizens Council and one of the coordinators for the petition, explained the amendment shortly after it was submitted to city officials.

Smart meters to be unveiled in mobile unit

SMART TEXAS is coming to Big Spring.

Oncor's SMART TEXAS Mobile Experience Center (MEC) will be in Big Spring from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The mobile unit will be parked in the H-E-B parking lot and will be open to the public.

“This mobile unit has been all over the United States in the past two years,” Jim Clements, Oncor area manager said. “This is one of the ways we are trying to educate our consumers on the new smart meters that are being deployed in the area.”

Humorist coming to Howard College April 4

Howard College Foundation, in partnership with Wells Fargo Bank, will host Doc Blakely, acclaimed humorist.

Blakely will be the guest speaker at the Howard College Foundation Speaker Series to be held Monday, April 4, at 7 p.m. at the Hall Center for the Arts on the Howard College campus in Big Spring.

• JOSEPH ALTON MURLEY, 32, of 1405 Tucson, was arrested Monday on a warrant from another agency.

• BURGLARY OF A BUILDING was reported in the 1400 block of S. Runnels.

Roberta Ratliff Reynolds, 91 years of age, went to heaven Sunday, March 20, 2011, at her residence. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at First United Methodist Church of San Angelo with the Rev. William P. Proctor officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in Garden City. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 22, 2011.
