Child indecency suspect turns himself in

April 21, 2011

A Howard County man was taken into custody Tuesday evening after turning himself over to law enforcement officials on a charge of indecency with a child – sexual contact.

William Waddill, 52, was arrested shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and charged with indecency with a child – sexual contact, according to officials with the Howard County Sheriff's Office.

GEO to host poker run

GEO is sponsoring a poker run and party Saturday to benefit Special Olympics.

The Glitter-N-Chrome Easter Fun Run will be held at the Hog Heaven Party Barn at 3910 W. Highway 80. The poker run will begin at 11 a.m. Fee is $20 per hand.

The “party” gets going at noon with an all-class car and bike show. Registration is $10 per vehicle.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• KIMBERLY MARIE CASTILLO, 27, of 1000 Howell, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid – no insurance.
• TEPHANIE MCCORMICK, 37, of 3304 W. Highway 80, was arrested Wednesday on warrants for no inspection certificate and a warrant from another agency.
• JAMES PATRICK THOMPSON, 39, of 2300 S. Monticello, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for theft.

Jo Ann Reed Trevino, 60, of Big Spring died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Don Snipes officiating. Burial will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.

Robert Paul Gomez, 26, of Big Spring died Sunday, April 17, 2011. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Kenneth Carson officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

BSHS golfers 5th after first day of regional tournament

LUBBOCK — The Big Spring High School boys' golf team is part of a seven-team logjam at the top of the standings following first-day play at the Region I-3A tournament Wednesday.

The Steers are in fifth place with a team score of 327, eight strokes behind leader Borger and a mere three shots back of second-place Andrews. Glen Rose is third with a 325, followed by Levelland at 326. Big Spring and Abilene Wylie are tied with identical 327 scores.

The top two teams qualify for next month's University Interscholastic League state tournament in Austin.

Forsan netters advance to regional finals

ODESSA — Forsan High School's Kyle Stevenson and Sydney Holdampf are one win away from a trip to the state tennis tournament.

Stevenson and Holdampf, both juniors at FHS, each recorded two victories Wednesday to reach the boys' and girls' singles semifinal round, respectively, at the Region I-2A tennis tournament at Ratliff Stadium Tennis Complex.

Stevenson opened tournament play be defeating Cody Asbury of Ingram Tom Moore, 6-3, 6-1. He then knocked off Ricardo Chavez of Dimmitt, 6-0, 6-0 to reach the semifinals, where he'll face Jesse Guerra of Tornillo at 8:30 a.m. today.
