Former Big Spring resident Mark J. Silen has had his book “The Perfect Time, the Universal Calendar” published. The book details a simple method of marking time. The system consists of 52 weeks, times 7 days equals 364 days. Silen is a resident of San Angelo. His book is available online and at most major bookstores.
Petra “Patsy” Torres, 52, of Big Spring died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Hospice House in Odessa. Funeral services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Ira Elmo “Ike” Wasson, 67, of Big Spring died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Joe Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Glennie V. Cain, 89, of Stanton died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in Midland. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Stanton with the Rev. David Harp officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011, at the funeral home.
LUBBOCK — If Forsan's Buffaloes are going to advance in the Class 2A state baseball playoffs they'll have to do it the hard way — winning two games today at Lubbock Cooper's Pirate Field against a formidable Bushland High School squad.
LUBBOCK — Howard College's Hawks managed to survive marathon games and a torrid pace through the loser's bracket to place themselves in position for a trip to nationals during the Region V Baseball Tournament here, but in the end, it may have been fatigue that sent them home Thursday.
It wasn't all fatigue, of course. A scrappy, highly-touted Grayson County College ballclub had more than a little to do with it.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• RUSSELL CHANCE RAYMOND, 17, of 447 Armstrong, was arrested Thursday on a charge of criminal trespass.
• LETICIA SANDI, 38, of 708 Lorilla, was arrested Thursday on a charge of no driver's license – when unlicensed.
• TERESA ANN LIFF, 54, of 902 Timothy Lane, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
• ATHEA RYANNE DARROW, 26, of 704 Willia, was arrested Thursday on warrants for no driver's license – when unlicensed and a warrant from another agency.
Polls are set to open Saturday at 7 a.m. in this year's municipal election, which includes two seats on the Big Spring City Council and the fate of a proposed charter amendment that would place term limits on the mayor and council members.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum, according to Howard County Elections Administrator Saundra Bloom.
