Landon Parker and Morgan Yarbrough earn the valedictorian and salutatorian slots respectively for the 2011 Sands High School graduation class, principal Zelda Bilbo announced.
Valedictorian Landon Parker is the son of Steve and Amy Parker of Knott and graduates with a grade point average of 95.63. Parker plans to attend Lubbock Christian University and major in business.

Petra “Patsy” Torres, 52, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the Hospice House in Odessa. Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Deacon Johnny Arguello, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Adam “Popcorn” Yanez, 56, of Big Spring died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Vigil Services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Deacon Johnny Arguello officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
Paula Hughes, 47, of Big Spring died Friday, May 13, 2011, in a Midland hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Sharon Wiese, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Linda Rau, 70, of La Porte, formerly of Big Spring went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 11, 2011. Viewing will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Central Assembly of God on Monday, May 16, 2011. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service as we celebrate her life Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at 10 a.m. The service will be held at Central Assembly of God, 4405 Crenshaw Rd., Pasadena. The services will be officiated by the Rev. Christopher Rau and the Rev. Donny Granberry.
