Richard “Rich” Shryack, 85, of Big Spring died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Memorial Park with T.J. Joyner, pastor of Marathon Baptist Church, officiating.

Curtis Pendleton, 29, of Big Spring, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at New Life Ministries Church of God in Christ, with Elder Jerome McNalley, officiating.

Losses drop Hawks from national softball tournament

The Lady Hawks of Howard College fell in consecutive shutout losses on Friday to end their season at the NJCAA tournament in St. George, Utah. The Hawks bats only accounted for a combined five hits in the two games,while giving up nine.

Iowa Western knocked Howard out of the double elimination tournament with a 4-0 shutout. Iowa only had five hits in the game, but accumulated 14 base runners in the game, due to walks, errors and hit-batsmen.

Despite the losses, Head Coach Kelly Raines was very pleased with Howard College's season.
