May 11th
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• PEDRO SAUCEDO, 40, of Stanton, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for failure to control speed and failure to appear.
• REBECCA RIVAS, 32, of 1505 Johnson, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for no driver's license – when unlicensed, failure to appear and two warrants from another agency.

May 10th
Jon Hargrove, 62, of Big Spring died Monday, May 9, 2011. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Kenneth Barton Howell, 76, of Big Spring died Monday, May 9, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Mary Lou Chenault of Lubbock, formerly of Big Spring, departed this life Monday, May 9, 2011, at the age of 84.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Combest Family Funeral Homes. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.

• DANIEL RAYMOND LUTZ, 37, of Sarasota, Fla., was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
• KIMBERLY NICOLE RIOS, 24, of 1606 Bluebird, was arrested Monday on a warrant for criminal mischief.
• CHRISTOPHER RYAN COLEGROVE, 19, of 3209 Oasis Rd., was arrested Monday on warrants for theft, failure to appear and no safety belt.
• DANIEL MONTEZ VIERA SR., 23, of 1907 S. Main St., was arrested Monday on a warrant for criminal mischief.
LUBBOCK - Howard College was defeated 5-1 Monday by New Mexico Junior College in the Region V Baseball Tournament. The Hawks were to play Midland at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the double-elimination tournament being held at Dan Law Field in Lubbock.
Firefighters with the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department and Big Spring Fire Department spent much of Monday battling a blaze in the southeast portion of the county that destroyed at least 2,300 acres and several structures.
Firefighters responded to the Tubbs Addition — located approximately a mile south of Big Spring on U.S. Highway 87 — around 1 p.m. after a wildfire was reported in the area.

Two corporations which a year ago allegedly gave mayor candidate Tommy Duncan campaign contributions — a violation of the Election Code — have also made donations to two individuals currently seeking seats on the Big Spring City Council, the Herald has learned.
Marcus Fernandez, a candidate for District 1 in Saturday's city elections, and James Glen Carrigan, who is running for the District 3 seat, filed campaign finance reports with the city of Big Spring indicating they have accepted donations from Quad A Inc. and Hydro Dynamics.
May is Mental Health Month, and West Texas Centers is raising awareness of mental illness by hosting a number of community-based events.
Mental Health Month was created more than 50 years ago by Mental Health America to emphasize the importance of mental wellness and promoting good mental health.
West Texas Centers hosts several events throughout the year calling attention to the importance of recognizing and treating mental illness but puts a special emphasis on the month of May in conjunction with Mental Health Month.
