Funeral services will be Wednesday in Louisiana for a Big Spring native who was killed in action in Afghanistan.
U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Michael “Mickey” Jonathan Garcia, 27, was killed July 4 during an attack on his unit in Wardac Province, Afghanistan.
Consider it a two-day celebration of all things Aggie.
The Howard County A&M Club will hold its 12th annual scholarship fundraiser Friday and Saturday, and organizers promise a variety of events for the fans of the maroon and white of Texas A&M.
Money raised during the two-day event will go toward funding scholarships for Howard County students attending the university.
“We currently support nine students with 15 endowed scholarships,” said Corey Green, an organizer of the event. “We hope to add two more endowed scholarships this year.”
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• JESUS CERVANTES JR, 29, of 3619 Connally St., was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
• LORENZO DELUNG WESLEY, 34, of 601 N. Scurry St., was arrested Monday on a charge of evading arrest/detention, assault: family violence threat or offensive touch.
• ROBERT RUBEN SANCHEZ, 47, of 1023 Stadium Avenue, was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
