McKinney to highlight festival

By the time Mark McKinney takes the stage Saturday night, Funtastic Fourth Festival board members will already know if this year’s downtown celebration will be the best yet. McKinney, a Big Spring native, is icing on the proverbial Independence Day cake. Even if Independence Day is really Monday.

Trustees ditch high school laptop program

Out with the laptops, in with the e-pads. And throw in some COWs for good measure.

During their Thursday night meeting, Big Spring Independent School District trustees approved a pilot program that will drastically change the technology that high school students get their hands on this coming school year.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• MICHAEL ANDREW MARTINEZ, 26, of 503 E. 17th St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
• LOYD VINCENT HARGROVE, 45, of Eddy, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
• RONALD LEE BURTON JR., 33, of 1412 Tucson, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
• BRITTANI MARIE COFFMAN, 19, of Odessa, was arrested Friday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol by a minor.
• BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported:

GILMER — Funeral services for Glen D. Bunn, 76, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2011, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Union Grove with the Rev. Monsignor Xavier Pappu and Father Joseph Ezharath officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer. A prayer rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, followed by visitation from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home. Mr. Bunn died June 27, 2011.

Steve Rogers, 59, of Big Spring died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Calvary Callender, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, officiating.
