The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity:
â€˘ MARIO ILDEFONSO SALAZAR, 21, 1503 Wood, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ CHRISTOPHER RYAN COLEGROVE, 19, 1425 E. Sixth No. 26, was arrested on a charge of theft from the elderly and two other-agency warrants.
â€˘ JAMES BRIAN FIVEASH, 54, San Angelo, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ FRANKIE WADE ORTEGA, 23, Beaumont, was arrested on charges of failure to identify/false or fictitious information and resisting arrest, search or transportation.
Nancy Jean Raymond Jones, age 61, of Big Spring, died and went to be with the Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in Midland, Texas. The family will receive friends Monday, July 18, 2011, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Rev. Doug Shelley, pastor of Eastside Baptist Church, officiating.
Firefighters are gradually gaining the upper hand against a fire that has consumed more than 5,000 acres in eastern Howard County, but the blaze is expected to continue through the weekend.
Meanwhile, fires consumed two abandoned structures but caused no injuries in Big Spring late Thursday and early today.
United Way of Big Spring and Howard County is saying goodbye to Jeanie Coor, executive director for the past two years, and welcoming Sandy Stewart as the its new director.
“The United Way is a great organization and I regret having to leave, but I know it is being turned over to good hands,” said Coor.
The transition comes due to a family move for Coor, but she will continue to help Stewart throughout the Boots and Bling 2012 campaign kickoff. No final date has been set for Coor yet, but Stewart is already taking on tasks.

â€˘ SEAN PARKER BAXTER, 19, of 3509 E. Interstate Highway 20 14A, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ GAUDY LYNN COX, 47, of Weatherford, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency.

Mary Lindsey, 73, of Andrews passed away Thursday, July 13, 2011, at Buena Vida Care Center in Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church in Levelland, Texas. The Rev. Glenn Smith of Sundown, Texas, will officiate. Burial will be in Sundown Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.
Big Spring City Council members gave the go-ahead for even tougher restrictions on water use Tuesday, as municipal officials continue to describe conservation efforts as “shooting at a moving target.”
The council gave the green light to several conservation methods to be implemented by City Manager Gary Fuqua, including another decrease in the number of days allowing outdoor water use — including watering lawns — and implementation of a hotline for city residents to report infractions.
Howard County's long, hot summer continues.
A trio of wildfires scorched thousands of acres in the eastern half of the county Tuesday, resulting in two volunteer firefighters being sent to a local hospital.
The largest of the three blazes — in the vicinity of Garrett Ranch in eastern Howard County — consumed more than 3,000 acres and was only partially contained at midday today.
Howard County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tommy Sullivan said a downed oil company power line sparked the fire.

â€˘ ERNEST WILLIAM CLARK, 71, transient, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminal trespass.
â€˘ BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported in the 1800 block of Duquoin Place.
â€˘ CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 3600 block of Calvin.
