Howard College officials believe they've found a way to deal with the severe drought, and the answer is literally below their feet.
Trustees will consider a proposal to drill up to six water wells on the Big Spring campus when they hold a special meeting at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Student Union Building Tumbleweed Room.
The building has gone up and the final stages of the project are in sight.
The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club was able to start construction on a new facility in February and is expecting the building to be completed sometime in October.
“We will be very excited to see it once it is finished and we are even more excited to move in,” Salvation Army Maj. Orville Chambless said.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ ADAN CHAVERA, 41, of 600 Holbert, was arrested Wednesday on charges of driving while license suspended/invalid â€“ no insurance and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
â€˘ MELINDA ERIN WALKER, 29, of San Diego, Calif., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of hindering officers discharging official duties.
â€˘ LINDA DIANE HERNANDEZ, 36, of Lubbock, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency.
Elsie Pearl Nobles, 90, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Memorial Park, with the Rev. Joey Bacon officiating.
