Rodney Peterson, 80, of Big Spring went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 29, 2011, in an Odessa hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham, minister of 14th and Main Church of Christ, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Rock the Desert begins Thursday

MIDLAND — The desert will be rocking for the 12th year at Rock the Desert 2011, Spirit in the Sky.
Rock the Desert 2011 has been scheduled Thursday through Saturday.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• JAY CLANTON BLACK, 36, of Whitney, Texas, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
• ROBERT WILLIAM BARTON, 32, of 501 N.E. 10th St., was arrested Saturday on two warrants from another agency.
• DAVID ADAM MARTINEZ, 27, of 1002 N. Main St., was arrested Saturday on charges of failure to identify as a fugitive – giving false information, possession of marijuana – two ounces or less, possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant from another agency.

Local man arrested on indecency with child charge

A Big Spring teen was arrested and charged with indecency with a child – sexual contact Saturday evening after law enforcement officers discovered a female victim under the age of 17 at his home, according to arrest records.
Andres Reyes Perches III, 17, was arrested Saturday night by the Howard County Sheriff's Office on a charge of indecency with a child – sexual contact after law enforcement officers discovered Perches “in contact” with the female at his home.
