Steers hope to stop running Panthers

Two-a-days are over, scrimmage games are over and football, real football has returned to Big Spring.
The Steers will be hosting the Fort Stockton Panthers this Friday night as the 2011 campaign gets under way. Coming off of last year's disappointing 5-5 season, the Big Spring bunch hopes to get this year off to a good start. Last season, the Steers handled the panthers without too much trouble in a 20-0 road win.

A mother's nightmare: Hartford's son missing for eight years

It's been eight years since former Big Spring resident Deanna Hartford saw her son, Arlin Bynum, but that hasn't stopped her and other family members from continuing to seek closure in his missing person case.

“We want to know what happened to our son and why,” Hartford said. “We are over the hate, anger and the bitterness we have felt for more than seven years. I know, in my heart, Arlin would not want me to feel that way. He was so full of life and everyone was his friend. He loved people.

Snyder family gets help with fundraising

The smallest gesture can make the biggest difference.

Madonna Chavez Horvatich, former Big Spring resident, has stepped up and is doing what she can in order to help raise funds for Cpl. Darrell Campbell — a Snyder police officer who was shot in the line of duty July 12 — to help ease costs incurred in his recovery.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• JULIAN JAY TORRES, 18, of 500.5 N.W. Seventh St., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• KY LEE HOFACKET, 22, of 1009 Todd Rd., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• MORRIS LYNDON FRALEY, 74, of 1506 Stadium, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury – family violence.
