A 118th Judicial District Court jury Tuesday acquitted a Big Spring man of assaulting a woman with his automobile.
The jury deliberated about 30 minutes before finding Joseph Alton Murley not guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at the end of the one-day trial.
Murley was accused of deliberately hitting a woman with his car in the 1300 block of Stanford on July 1, 2010. If convicted, he would have faced a prison term of between two and 20 years in state prison.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
â€¢ LOGAN EARL ROSE, 29, of 1100 Nolan, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for disorderly conduct â€“ fighting.
â€¢ ORLANDO SANCHEZ JR., 54, of 1407 Virginia, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid â€“ no insurance.
â€¢ JOHNNY LEE RIOS, 26, of 710 Creighton, was arrested Tuesday on charges of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction and theft.
John W. Ray, 84, of Big Spring died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Pat Ray officiating.
James Michael Thurman, 57, was born to James M. and Dana Collins Thurman on Aug. 5, 1954, in Baird, Texas, and died Aug. 22, 2011, in Pangburn, Ark. Local law enforcement officials are investigating a report of a foot chase that gave way to gunfire Monday morning in the 500 block of State Street.
According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the Big Spring Police Department, the altercation involved several black, male suspects.
MARTIN COUNTY — What is believed to have begun with an argument turned deadly during the weekend in Martin County, leaving one Lamesa man shot to death and a second on the run.
According to law enforcement officials, the shooting was reported at 8:51 a.m. Sunday when a local resident called 911 to say that someone had been shot at their residence in the 3100 block of County Road D 3600 in central Martin County.

Dorothy Ellen Stripling, 81, of Big Spring died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Ivins, the Rev. Keith Wiseman and the Rev. Sharon Wiese officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Peter Kim "P.K." Barnes, 62, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, in Mitchell County. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
Nita Jayne Jones Ellison, 58, of Big Spring died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center.
