Film buffs sought for 'Dark Crystal'

The Big Spring Film Society is looking for a few good men ... and women.

The local film society is looking for volunteers to help with its final screening of the season Saturday, Sept. 24, when the organization plans to present “The Dark Crystal” at Big Spring State Park.

According to Film Society Chairman Brandon Johnson, the screening — part of the group's annual summer screening series which began this year with “Back to the Future” and “Ghostbusters” — represents a major accomplishment for the organization.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• ARTHUR EARL JACKSON, 44, of 1307 E. 14th St., was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency.
• ALFREDO RIOS, 56, of 1204 Wood, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for expired driver's license.
• FELICIA CANALES, 22, of 1002 N. Main St. Apt. 18, was arrested Thursday on warrants for failure to use safety seat system with child (three counts) and no driver's license when unlicensed.

Roy 'Alan' Petty

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Roy "Alan" Petty of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Tuesday morning, Sept. On Sept. 17, 2011, visitation will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a service at 3 p.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home, 5600 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas. Following the service, there will be a Celebration of Life at the Berry Creek Country Club from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Verlene Atkinson, 78, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at the Mt. Olive Memorial Park Chapel with Robert Turner officiating.

Ladies Golf Association results

In a recent nine-hole team scramble, members of the Comanche Trail Ladies Golf Association continued their trend of taking it down to the wire.

While there was a clear winner, with the team of Jerry Roach, Annie ward, Paul and Dee Jenkins shooting four under par, a three-way tie had to be sorted out to determine second place.

A scorecard playoff, going to the fourth handicap hole, was used and second place was eventually grabbed by Jimmy and Deanna Foresyth, along with Bill and Bobbie Holden.
