Annual triathlon Saturday

September 9, 2011

Triathletes will give it their best Saturday at the Comanche Warrior Triathlon.

The fourth annual triathlon will begin at 8 a.m., following a 7:30 a.m. pre-race meeting. The course will consist of a 500-meter open water swim, an 18.6-mile bike ride on Wasson Road and a 5k run through Comanche Trail Park.

School enrollment figures on the rise

No one really knows why school enrollment is up across most of Howard County, but no one's exactly complaining about the fact, either.

Big Spring and Coahoma school districts both reported enrollment gains as of the end of August, while Forsan's figures have remained stable, school officials said.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• ELIZABETH HOPE LAREZ, 35, of 711 N.W. Ninth St., was arrested Thursday on a warrant for failure to maintain financial responsibility.
• CAMELIA ANN CASTILLO, 37, of 3304 W. Highway 80, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
• CAROLYN GAIL SLACK, 43, of 2624 Dow, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
• ASSAULT was reported in the 2600 block of Dow.
• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 500 block of Scott Drive.

Trevor Glen Dunn "Lineman Get It Dunn," 20, of Stanton died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor of First Baptist Church of Big Spring, officiating.

Marinette M. Teague, 76, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Visitation was held Thursday at Saint Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Saint Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church, Colorado Springs.
