The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• LEIGH ANN MCKENDREE, 44, of Arkansas, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• KASSAUNDRA DYHAN MUNOZ, 21, of 1007 Sycamore, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for no driver's license – when unlicensed and failure to appear.
• BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported in the 800 block of W. Interstate Highway 20.
• BURGLARY OF A HABITATION was reported in the 2600 block of Hunter.

Kathlyn M. Trevey

September 28, 2011

Kathlyn M. Trevey (Kaye) died Sept. 19, 2011, at Parkview Nursing Home in Big Spring, Texas. Kaye was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Scurry County, Texas, to Lackey Scott and Alpha M. Trevey. She lived most of her life in the Snyder, Big Spring and Midland areas.

In 1998, Kaye went to live in the Royal Neighbor Fraternal Organization’s home in Davenport, Iowa. She returned to West Texas in 2004. She was a long time member of the Royal Neighbors, the Rebekahs and served in leadership in local as well as state levels of both organizations.

Lady Steers stifle Snyder

The Big Spring Lady Steers remained undefeated in district play, defeating Snyder in Steer Gym in three identical 25-14 matches.

Despite dropping from number nine to nineteen in the the latest Texas coaches poll, the Lady Steers remain a tough challenge for any opponent and their play continues to improve from week to week.

Brenda Tingley, 66, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at her residence. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

Search warrant done in Coahoma

September 27, 2011

Federal agents from San Angelo — assisted by local law enforcement — executed a search warrant today during the early morning hours in Coahoma as part of a child pornography investigation.

According to Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker, the search warrant was executed at approximately 6:30 a.m. at a residence.

Officials with the sheriff’s office assisted investigators with the San Angelo ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) department.

BSISD board grants easement for ONCOR

It was one of those things that just couldn’t wait.

Big Spring Independent School District trustees held a five-minute special meeting Monday to grant a utility easement at the sites where four new elementary campuses are being constructed.

The easement with ONCOR, the local electricity provider, will allow the company to move power lines out of the way so that construction of the new schools can proceed on schedule.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• ROBERT ALLEN CHANDLER, 33, of Oklahoma, was arrested Monday on a charge of intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury.
• MICHAEL ARTHUR BROWN, 41, of 3606 Calvin, was arrested Monday on warrants for accumulated items/weeds/rubbish (four counts) and criminal mischief – impair/interrupt/divert public water.
• GABRIEL LEE BARRAZA, 25, of 5209 Dawson Rd., was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.

Dan J. Lewis, a resident of Lubbock since 1970, passed away at home on Sept. 25, 2011, following a lengthy illness. He was 88 years old. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 3:30 p.m. at Lubbock City Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

Jacquie Kirkendoll, 56, of Big Spring died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at her residence. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Roy Roberson officiating.

Forsan wins district opener

September 27, 2011

FORSAN — The Forsan Buffaloes opened district play Friday night in front of a packed stadium against the Post Antelopes. Any hopes Ty Johnson might be tired after last week's display were quickly dismissed as he scored four more times in the Buffaloes' decisive 47-14 stampeding of Post.

Foster Burchett found the end zone three times himself, as well as hitting Johnson for one of his scores in the game. Yet, Forsan's head coach said the game was not about individual accomplishment.
