COLORADO CITY — The search for 13-year-old Hailey Dunn expanded Friday to include a landfill in Abilene.
According to reports by television news station KTXS, search personnel were spotted through the news outlet's tower camera, located in the northern part of Abilene.
Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer confirmed that investigators — utilizing cadaver dogs provided by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice — were searching the facility.
Cadaver dogs are canines that have been trained to detect human bodies or remains.
More than 40 years after his untimely death, area residents will once again remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday evening when they take to the street bearing the civil rights leader's name for the annual march.
And while the day — recognized as a national holiday — will mean time off for many area employees and employers, march coordinators are encouraging area residents to make it a day on, not a day off.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. and walkers will head west on Martin Luther King Boulevard to FM 700, where the group will hold a prayer.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity Friday and early Saturday:
â€˘ RANDALL SCOTT MARTIN, 31, Amarillo, was arrested on a charge of driving while license invalid/no insurance.
â€˘ ASSAULT was reported in the 600 block of Elgin and the 2000 block of Goliad.
â€˘ CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 1000 block of N. Main.
â€˘ THEFT was reported in the 1700 block of Gregg.
Myrl Bryans Fitzhugh, 92, passed from this earthly life into the loving arms of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. She completed a battle with cancer in a peaceful manner on Jan. 14, 2011. A memorial service to celebrate Myrlâ€™s life will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at First United Methodist Church, Big Spring. Following the service, the family will greet friends at the church. Burial will be private.
Buddy Ray Perry was born March 1, 1947 in Palestine, Texas, to J.J. and Eula Perry. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m.â€“4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Johnsonâ€™s Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Budewig and the Rev. Randall Wehmeyer officiating.
Mary â€śNeniâ€ť Doporto, 70, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at her residence. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
Eschol Graham, age 88, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at the VA in Dublin. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16 at Lovely Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Hardy-Towns Funeral Home.
Roberto Sotelo, age 66, of Lubbock a former Big Spring resident, died on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at his home in Lubbock, following an illness. Funeral services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.npwwelch.com
Alexa Roxann Hernandez, a girl, was born at 12:02 p.m. Dec. 20, 2010, weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 19 inches long. She is the daughter of Eddie and Sandra Hernandez of Big Spring. She was welcomed home by older brother Izaiah E. Hernandez.
Lauren Chesworth and Eric Barber, both of Big Spring, were united in marriage at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28, 2010, at College Baptist Church with Calvary Callendar, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene, officiating the double-ring ceremony. Tim and Jennifer Ortman, music ministers at the First Church of the Nazarene, provided the music during the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Pat and Candy Chesworth of Big Spring and the granddaughter of the late Stephen and Maxine Forshee and the late Jim and Sylvia Chesworth.
