Terlingua may have its International Chili Championship and Nebraska its World Chili Cookoff Championship, but when it comes to warming the hearts of West Texans, nothing beats a bowl of chili from the Fraternal Order of Eagles Annual Chili Cook-off.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles will pull out its well-seasoned cast-iron pots and gather its secret stash of heated spices to host its 10th Annual Chili Cook-off Jan. 28, benefitting the West Texas Centers Children-In-Need Fund.
Wilma Grice, 84, of Big Spring died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, in a Greenville, Texas, nursing home. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
John D. Pool Jr., 78, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Big Spring died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in Orlando. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Daniel Paul Breyman, 34, of Odessa died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, in an auto accident in Martin County. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at The Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints in Odessa with President Jerry Zant officiating. Interment will follow at Andrews North Cemetery in Andrews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at the funeral home.
June Leota Bingham McCracken, 86, died peacefully at home Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. Randy Cotton, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Hard to believe that three years of Healthy Woman have gone by.
Scenic Mountain Medical Center Healthy Woman program is “Celebrating Three Thrilling Years” at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 26 in the Dora Roberts Community Center ballroom.
“It is a relaxed, browse and mingle time so folks can come as they are ready. We like to think of it as a transition period,” SMMC Marketing Director Kim Howell said, “where folks lay aside the problems and stress of the day and get in the mood to have a terrific evening.”
Special guest speaker will again be Lisa Smartt, author and comedienne.

• FELICIA CANALES, 22, of 616 State St., was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.
• JARRON DAWAN VANDERBILT, 28, of 1502 Lincoln, was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.
