Maxine Coleman, 93, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory, Big Spring, Texas.

C.G. Griffin, 89, of Big Spring died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Walter McCall and Dennis Etherege officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at the funeral home.
He was born May 20, 1923, in Big Spring, Texas, and married Norma Henry on March 15, 1947, in Big Spring, Texas.

General election features local, national issues

November 5, 2012

A commissioners race and the future direction of Big Spring's economic development corporation are decisions local voters will make Tuesday, but they aren't the only issues that will impact Howard Countians.
Also on the ballot is the obvious presidential election featuring Democratic incumbent Barak Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.
A bit closer to home is the race for U.S. Senator between Democrat Paul Sadler and Republican Ted Cruz.
Races for Railroad Commissioner, Supreme Court Justice and Court of Criminal Appeals Judge are also on Tuesday's ballot.

Police beat

November 5, 2012

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• CHARLIE JAKE TURNER, 33, of 4215 Hamilton, was arrested Sunday on charges of public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana – two ounces or less.
• HENRY TREVINO FRANCO JR., 21, of 1009 E. 14th St., was arrested Sunday on warrants for c riminal mischief and failure to appear.

Christmas tree forest coming to Heritage Museum

Heritage Museum's Christmas Tree Forest turns 10 this year.
The museum's annual holiday exhibit, which will feature more than 40 custom-decorated Christmas trees, will open Nov. 15 and run through Dec. 21.
Around 40 businesses, organizations, school groups and individuals are expected to decorate trees for the fifth annual event at the museum, Director Nancy Raney said.
“We really enjoy the Christmas Tree Forest,” Raney said. “It gets us in the mood for Christmas. It always gets very beautiful down at the museum this time of year.
