The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
Note — The BSPD reported no arrests were made for the corresponding period.
• THEFT was reported:
In the 1000 block of E. Second Street.
In the 400 block of E. Fourth Street.
In the 800 block of Rosemont.
• BURGLARY OF A BUILDING was reported in the 400 block of E. Fourth Street.
• BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported in the 400 block of E. Fourth Street.
• BURGLARY OF A HABITATION was reported:
In the 1200 block of S. Goliad.
In the 2000 block of Virginia.

Why not? Volunteers gearing up for Relay

$192,000, 35 teams and 175 survivors ... Why not?
That’s the question Howard and Glasscock Counties can expect to be hearing from Relay For Life members for 2013. The annual event is set for April 19-20 at Blankenship Field.
During the Community Kick-off for the 2013 Relay For Life, held Tuesday night in Garrett Hall at First United Methodist Church, the goals for the upcoming Relay were announced.

Shooting death investigation continues

Law enforcement officials with the Howard County Sheriff's Office say the investigation into the Oct. 27 shooting that claimed the life of one Big Spring man and injured another is still ongoing, as investigators try to piece together the events of the night.

Edwin Rentas

November 14, 2012

Edwin Rentas, 56, of Midland died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Edwin was born May 1, 1956, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Esther (Berrios) and Euclides Rentas. He worked at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Big Spring and was a veteran of the United States Army. He spent the last three years as an escort with Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Apolonio 'Hoppy' Hernandez

Apolonio “Hoppy” Hernandez, 77, of Big Spring died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Coahoma, Texas, to Leonor and Antonio Hernandez. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer and was a lifetime resident of Howard County. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Abraham Espinoza Jr.

Abraham Espinoza Jr., 74, of Big Spring died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Texas Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He was born March 31, 1938, in Eola, Texas, to Micaela and Abraham Espinoza Sr. He grew up in San Angelo and moved to Big Spring in 1961. He married Martina (Martha) Robles on Sept. 12, 1961, in Big Spring.

Lucy Narbaiz Ochoa

Lucy Narbaiz Ochoa, 71, of Big Spring died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with a vigil service to follow at 7 p.m.

Frankie Chandler, 67, of Big Spring died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at his residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

John Pat Malone, 55, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, in a Colorado City nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at the Mt. Olive Memorial Park Chapel.

Theresa LuAnn Hood

Theresa LuAnn Hood, 71, of Salem, Ind., died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital of Salem.
She was born Oct. 17, 1941, in Big Spring, Texas, to Curtis and Elma Hood. She was a member of the Nazarene Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra Mauldin Malone of Parker, Kan.; son, Joey Van Mauldin of Salem, Ind.; brother, Larry Hood of McKinney, Texas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery's Rock Chapel in Big Spring at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012.
