Stephen â€śSteveâ€ť Johnson, 51, of Big Spring died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel with Dr. Doug Shelley, pastor of Eastside Baptist Church, officiating.
He was born Dec. 4, 1961, in France to Muriel and Charles Johnson. He worked most of his life in the oilfield. He also worked for B&E Roustabout and Robert Wash. He lived most of his life in Howard County and was a Baptist.
Head Men's Basketball Coach Mark Adams said a wide margin of victory over Division III Brookhaven College on Friday was likely, but the final score of 110-53 exceeded even his expectations.
â€śWe have a team â€” as far as scoring goes â€” we score easily,â€ť Adams, who has a NJCAA national championship title on his resume, said. â€śWe can make plays and score points. It was a good win for us.â€ť
The Bears never had a chance, as the Hawks quickly went up 9-0 before Brookhaven managed to put two points on the board.
Allison Tamara Waddell, 28, passed away Nov. 29, 2012, in her sleep at her home in Big Spring.
Jose Chavez, 30, of Garden City, Texas, was killed in an automobile accident Nov. 29, 2012.
He was born Feb. 24, 1982 in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Jose Jesus Chavez and the late Maria Del Rosario Torres de Chavez.
He began working at Eco-Drip Irrigation as a warehouse helper eventually became warehouse manager. He enjoyed hunting, dancing and barbecuing.
Today marks a first for the Crossroads area, as the Big Spring Police Department made its final move into the Troy M. Hogue Joint Law Enforcement Center, placing all local law enforcement agencies under the same roof.
The BSPD â€” which joins the Howard County Sheriff's Office at the newly constructed facility â€” announced this week the move marks the closure of the previous police department building, located in downtown Big Spring.
Hundreds of U.S. military personnel stationed overseas this Christmas season will receive some holiday cheer from area residents, thanks to a â€śgreatâ€ť response to the just-concluded Howard County's Christmas for Our Troops drive, organizers said.
Debbie Burrow, who led the drive, said almost 500 packages filled with holiday goodies, Christmas cards, toiletries and other items were mailed out this week.
Those items, plus the money to buy even more package-stuffers, were supplied by very generous Howard County residents, Burrow said.

â€˘ DARRYL LEE MILLER, 37, of 710 Pine, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for theft of service â€“ more than $500 and less than $1,500.
â€˘ LAPAUL ERIC SCAGGS, 36, of 510 S. Benton, was arrested Thursday on a charge of disorderly conduct â€“ language.

â€˘ ASSAULT was reported in the 800 block of W. Eighth Street.
â€˘ BURGLARY OF A HABITATION was reported in the 1300 block of Lexington.
J. Juanita Bryant, 84, of Big Spring, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 4, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Doris Haynes officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born in Loraine, Texas, on Dec. 1, 1928, to Clem and Cora Wilkerson. She married the love of her life, J. Weldon Bryant, on Aug. 9, 1974, and both were faithful members of First Baptist Church in Big Spring, where she sang in the senior adult choir.
Juanan L. Osborn, 92, of Big Spring died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at her residence. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Stephen "Steve" Johnson, 51, of Forsan died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in Odessa. His services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
