118th District Court Judge Tim Yeats said this morning there is no merit to allegations he misused campaign funds during his 2010 election run.
âA complaint has been filed against me with the Texas Ethics Commission by an individual from East Texas,â Yeats said in a press release this morning. âI deny the allegations made in that complaint. I am in the process of responding to the Ethics Commission concerning the matter. I am comfortable that I have done nothing wrong and the Ethics Commission will find no violations of campaign finance laws once this matter is fully reviewed.â
Two elite seniors are gracing the halls of Big Spring High School.
Shermila Kher â who was named a National Merit Scholar finalist â and Lacy McMurtrey â National Merit Scholar commended performer â have been named among the top 50,000 students in the nation.
National Merit Scholars are determined by the scores of the PSATs taken during the junior year of high school.

â˘ LARRY WILSON STEIGER JR., 28, of 100 E. Shangri-La Dr. in Azle, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
â˘ DANIEL WAYNE PAYTON, 33, of Greenville, Ohio, was arrested Wednesday on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct â language.
WHITESBORO â Funeral services for J. Oakey Hagood, 76, will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Whitesboro, Texas, with the Rev. Ken Hildebrand officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Sandusky, Texas. All services arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Wednesday evening, Feb. 15, 2012, from 6-8 p.m.
He passed away Feb. 12, 2012, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital â WNJ in Sherman, Texas.
Dolores Valdespino Chavez, 94, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Co-Pastor Antonio Ibarra, of the Kingdom Hall for Jehovah's Witnesses, officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
The family will begin receiving friends at 1 p.m, Thursday until the time of service.
Santiago âJimmyâ Munoz, 82, of Big Spring died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with a prayer service following at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God with the Rev. Craig Wascom officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
William A. âBillâ Bonner Jr., 68, of Austin formerly of Big Spring died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, in Big Spring. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Memorial Park with Chaplain Cherise Felty officiating.
He was born July 27, 1943. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Vietnam. He graduated from Big Spring High School and Angelo State University with a bachelorâs degree in accounting. He had been a certified public accountant in Austin for more than 40 years.
