Calvin âRustyâ Hamilton, 79, of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Wilson, pastor of Baptist Temple Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Rita Daniel Palmer, 79, of Big Spring died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Binnix and Chaplain Walter McCall officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Rita was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Comanche County, Texas, and married Philip Palmer on Feb. 13, 1957, in Howard County, Texas. He preceded in death on May 14, 1987.
James L. âJimmyâ Welch, 66, of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock from injuries sustained in a fall at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.Â
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 23, 1945, in Temple, Texas, to Edwina (Baggett) and Thomas Welch Sr. He married Susie Horbath on Dec. 8, 1972, in Big Spring.
Richard and Rachel OâNeill, of Austin, Texas, announce the birth of their baby girl, Scarlett Marie OâNeill.
Scarlett was born Jan. 20, 2012, at Seton Southwest Hospital in Austin.
She weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and measured 20 Â˝ inches long.
Her maternal grandparents are Dub Clinton and Lucy and Tom Marlow, all of Big Spring.
Her paternal grandparents are Ed and Sherrie OâNeill and Katherine and Hollis Farris, all of San Angelo.
Â Antonio A. Rodriquez (Trayce) III, son of Tony and Brandi Rodriquez of Big Spring, was born Jan. 2, 2012, at Westwood Hospital in Midland, Texas.
He weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and measured 19 3/4 inches long.
His maternal grandparents are Debra Borchardt and the late John C. Borchardt of Big Spring, Texas.
His paternal grandparents are Tony and Isabel Rodriquez.
Trayce was welcomed home by his siblings, Kylee Borchardt and Kynlee Fontana.
Big Spring Herald Publisher Ron Midkiff announced this week the local newspaper will be offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the recent theft and vandalism of news racks located throughout the community.
Midkiff said the newspaper has had at least two of the racks â located throughout the city for area residents to purchase newspapers from on a daily basis â stolen in the last week, the most recent taken from the entryway of the Big Spring Mall.

Big Spring Prospectorâs Club will put on its show March 3-4 in the Howard County Fair Barn, off FM 700. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
There is no admission fee and each youngster will be given a free polished stone at the door.
Lola Lamb, secretary-treasurer for the club, said there will be a lot to offer those who attend.
Candidates have been slow to file in area school district elections, slated for May 12.
Coahoma Independent School District has yet to place a candidateâs name on the ballot for its upcoming school board election. There are three at-large positions open, currently held by Brian Moore, president of the CISD school board, Jody Reid and Alan Wright. Those wanting to file can obtain an application at the CISD administration office. Early voting in the Coahoma races â and all area ISD elections â will begin April 30. Early voting for CISD will be held at the Howard County Courthouse.
