One and done: Steers bow out of playoffs

February 22, 2012

EASTLAND — The Big Spring Steers' trip through the 2012 basketball playoffs was brief and, at times, painful.

The Burkburnett Bulldogs unleashed an offensive and defensive storm in the first quarter en route to a 65-42 victory over the Steers in their Class 3A bi-district playoff game at Eastland High School Tuesday night.

The first eight minutes of the game was a nightmare clad in orange — orange being the predominant color of Burkburnett's jerseys — for the Steers. Quite simply, the Bulldogs did little wrong, while Big Spring couldn't establish a rhythm on either side of the court.

Lady Steers down Coahoma in extra innings

February 21, 2012

Big Spring High School Softball Coach John Sparks got a first look at his full-strength squad Monday night, and liked most of what he saw.

For sure, he enjoyed the outcome.

Terra Keeney stroked a RBI double with two outs in the eighth inning to give Big Spring a 7-6 victory over Coahoma in non-district action Monday at the Lady Steer Softball Complex.

Considering it was a matchup of Howard County teams, perhaps it was only fitting that this one would play out like it did, with both teams rallying from deficits while displaying a flair for the dramatic.
