Jerelene Bell, 89, of Big Spring, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, in a local nursing home. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

Hannah Charlene Ables

Graveside services for Hannah Charlene Ables, 77, of Seagraves, Texas, will be held Monday, March 19, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Gaines County Cemetery in Seagraves with the Rev. Ronnie Lundsford officiating. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ables passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Memorial Health Care Center in Seminole, Texas. She was born May 19, 1934, in Oxford, Miss., to Cora (Keel) and J.D. Keel Sr. She was a Baptist. Hannah Ables was a resident of Seagraves for 58 years.

Ethel Mary Dunn Tarbet

Ethel Mary Dunn Tarbet, a long-time resident of Dawson County and Lamesa, went to her eternal rest March 17, 2012, at the age of 101 years. Ethel was born Nov. 11, 1910, in Hamilton County, near the Leon River, to Eric V. Dunn and Jackie Alice Wright Dunn. She was the eldest of five children. The family moved from the Hico area to Dawson County in 1923. The family traveled 300 miles in two weeks by covered wagon, with Ethel, almost 13 years old, driving one of the two wagons.

Powwow seeking sponsors

Officials with the 8th annual Big Spring Powwow say they are still trying to “drum up” sponsors for the event, which is slated for April 21-22 at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
According to Richard “Indio” Lesser, event coordinator for the Big Spring Powwow Committee, preparations for the powwow are in the works, with just a few key ingredients missing at this point.

Child says he was put in straight jacket, parents arrested

Law enforcement officials say the 7-year-old child rescued early Sunday morning near a home in the 4900 block of S. Highway 87 was allegedly restrained using a straight jacket before attempting to run away.
In a press release issued Monday morning, Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker confirmed the boy had told law enforcement officers he was running away from home after having been allegedly restrained using a straight jacket by his parents, who were taken into custody shortly after.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• ANTONIO LIMON IBARRA, 23, of 211 Channing, was arrested Sunday on warrants for expired motor vehicle inspection certificate, driving while license invalid (two counts), failure to appear (four counts) and operating a motor vehicle without license plates – or with one license plate.
• RODNEY JOHNSON, 35, of Wisconsin, was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.
• TANYA JEAN JENKINS, 24, of Quinlan, Texas, was arrested Sunday on two warrants from other agencies.
