Internationally known inspirational speaker and artist Richart Hight will be at Hall Center for the Arts in a 7 p.m. performance Monday as part of Howard College Foundation's speaker series.
The event is free to the public but a ticket is required for admission due to limited seating. Tickets can be obtained by calling Howard College at 264-5063 or by visiting the reception desk at the Old Main building on campus.
Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
With reductions in deliveries recently announced by the Colorado River Municipal Water District, officials with the city of Big Spring hope new restrictions — which go into effect Sunday — will help the municipality cut its water usage by approximately 28 percent.
According to City Manager Gary Fuqua, municipal water customers will be going to a two-hour-a-week schedule for outdoor watering, similar to those adopted by neighboring cities also struggling with the effects of the drought.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday:
• BRANDON THOMAS LANDO, 25, of 3200 Ave. C, was arrested Friday on a charge of assault by contact.
• VINCENT EDWARD MCVEA, 41, of 2508 Dow, was arrested Friday on charges of driving while license invalid, fail to appear (two counts), expired registration, warrant from other agency, failure to identify/fugitive give false information and driving while license suspended/invalid with previous conviction.
Robert “Bob” Adair, 54, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, March 29, 2012, in a local nursing home. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Andrews.
Bob was born Jan. 24, 1958, in Andrews.
Survivors include two brothers, Paul “Sonny” Adair and wife Lynn of Big Spring and Terry Adair of Andrews; one sister, Laurie Kennedy and husband Randall of Williams, Ariz.; grandmother, Verniece Ballew of Tucumcari, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Paul W. Sr. and Laurel (Ballew) Adair, and two nephews.
Elizabeth Herrera Martinez, 34, of Big Spring died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
She was born July 8, 1977, in Big Spring, Texas, and married Rodney Martinez on June 8, 1994, in Big Spring. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
