Vietnam vets 'welcomed home' during ceremony

Welcome Home … two simple words that have come to mean so much to Vietnam veterans.

Friday, The West Texas VA Health Care System hosted the second annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans program at Lone Star Aviation Hangar.

“Vietnam was full of tragedy, full of loss and full of sadness, just as any war was,” Daniel Marsh, director of West Texas VA Health Center said.

According to statistics provided that evening, more than 3 million soldiers served in the Southeast Asia theater of operations during the Vietnam conflict. Out of those soldiers, 2,338 went missing in action.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• PATRICK MICHAEL SHARP, 43, of 6321 Ranch Rd. 33, was arrested Sunday on three warrants from other agencies.
• AMADOR RIOS JR., 30, of 700 S. Douglas, was arrested Sunday on warrants for assault by contact, failure to appear and driving while license invalid.
• UNIQUE CHRYSTELLE FULTZ, 21, of 1411 Virginia, was arrested Sunday on two warrants from other agencies and charges of operating ATV on roadway and failure to appear.

Hawks split doubleheader with Clarendon, take series 3-1

The 23-6 Howard College Hawks split wins in a doubleheader with the Clarendon College Bulldogs Saturday at Jack Barber Field to conclude a four game series. Howard College lost the first game 5-4, and rallied to take game two 9-8.

Clayton Crum started strong on the mound for the Hawks in game one, and Paul Hendrix homered in the bottom of the fifth inning bringing HC within one run.

Brendon McCurry picked up a RBI in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Reed Seeley who reached base on a walk, making it a 5-3 game.
