Municipal and school board election results

Final results in this year's Big Spring municipal election: Proposed 4B Water/Wastewater Project -- 72 percent in favor, 28 percent against ... City Council District 4 race -- Bobby McDonald 51 percent, Loretta Farquhar 49 percent.

Final results for the Big Spring ISD school board trustee Place 2 Race -- Maria V. Padilla, 39 percent ; Pat Deanda, 37 percent; Edwin O. Ware 24 percent. According to school district officials, a run off election between Padilla and Deanda will be scheduled in in the coming weeks.

May 29 primary looming

Area election officials won't have much time to breath following this weekend's municipal elections, as early voting in this year's political party primaries is set to begin Monday morning at 8 a.m.

The primaries — normally conducted in March, but held up this year due to federal lawsuits pertaining to the statewide redistricting process — have been pushed back several times until officials finally settled on May 29.

Forsan school trustees eye facilities study

FORSAN — Forsan Independent School District trustees will likely commission a facilities study when they hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the administration wing board room.

Trustees are expected to approve the hiring of Mike Brooks from the Texas Association of School Boards to conduct the study, which will be used to determine what, if any, renovations are needed to bring FISD campuses up to standard.

“We've got a variety of issues we're dealing with,” FISD Superintendent Randy Johnson said. “And a lot of those maintenance issues and concerns are at Elbow (Elementary).”

Road woes top county agenda

County road maintenance will likely be the topic of choice Monday when the Howard County commissioners meet, as the court is expected to look at different ways to pay for some much needed repairs to its roadways.

The court is expected to discuss — and possibly take action on — road use agreements during the meeting, according to County Judge Mark Barr, as the county looks to address a growing problem with its county roads.

In the 1500 block of Sycamore Street B.
In the 1300 block of Stadium.
• THEFT was reported in the 1800 block of S. Gregg Street.

Don Cunningham, 71, of Big Spring, Texas, went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2012, at his residence. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 13, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Jim Binnix, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Shamar Myles, 26, of Big Spring, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
