Convenience and quality care are two qualities Scenic Mountain Medical Center hopes to exhibit this week..
SMMC will be hosting an open house from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday, There will be a ribbon cutting as well.
âWe want to invite the public to come out and see our remodel,â said SMMC Marketing Director Kim Howell. âWe want to remind people we are here, but also show people what all we have to offer.â
Ed Moughon knows the importance of volunteers.
âBig Spring State Hospital patients are provided exemplary care by the hospitalâs more than 600 employees.
But the volunteers provide the warm touches that personalize their care and take it to a higher level,â Moughon, state hospital superintendent, said.
âThe hospitalâs volunteers are integral to the hospitalâs day-to-day success, Their contributions are noticed daily, and once a year hospital employees publicly honor the more than 50 volunteers.â
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
â˘ BILLY MANN KIRK, 66, of 627 State, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
â˘ RICHARD JAMES WHITE JR., 35, of 315 E. Alice, was arrested Saturday on charges of public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance.
â˘ ROLANDO ZAMORA JR., 22, of 1612 Bluebird, was arrested Saturday on warrants for disregarding a stop sign, failure to appear (two counts) and no safety seat system for child.
The Big Spring City Council is expected to deny a rate increase requested by Atmos Energy's West Texas Division during its meeting Tuesday night, a move city officials say is necessary due to a breakdown in negotiations.
The council gave final approval to suspend the rate increase by a unanimous vote in late February, a move designed to give the city time to study the request, according to City Finance Director Peggy Walker.
Nancy Elaine Robbins, 68, of Big Spring died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at her residence. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
William August "W.A." Ringener, 92, of Stanton died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Downtown Church of Christ with Darel McWhorter officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at Gilbreath Funeral Home.
Marie Chapman, 92, of Big Spring died Sunday, May 6, 2012. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park with Rick Cunningham officiating.
She was born April 1, 1920, in DeLeon, Texas, to Zonie and John Lancaster. She and her twin brother, Marion Lancaster, were the youngest of nine children. When Marie was two, the family came to Howard County in a covered wagon.
