Recent rainfall in and around the Crossroads area — along with increased water conservation efforts — has likely added another two to three months to the dangerously short lifespan of the local water district's lone surviving reservoir, according to officials.
According to John Grant, Colorado River Municipal Water District general manager, the recent rainfall has done little to improve low reservoir levels at Lake Thomas and Lake Spence, but Lake Ivie saw a considerable gain from Mother Nature's gift.

Funtastic Fourth organizers are promising a little bit of everything when the annual event returns later this month and they apparently are making good on their vow.
The Downtown Revitalization Association Presents the 10th Annual Alon USA/Alon Brands Funtastic Fourth will be held from 10 a.m. until midnight Saturday, June 30 in Big Spring's downtown area, and events include live music, give-aways, food, and, as a new twist, pig races.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• ALEXANDER QUINTANA, 31, of 1505 Robin St., was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.
• DERRIC LOUIS KAPCHINSKI, 25, of Vernon, Texas, was arrested Sunday on a charge of racing on highway.
• JAMES LESLIE INGRAM, 44, of 704 Highland, was arrested Sunday on a charge of criminal trespass.
• MARIA VERONICA RODRIGUEZ, 31, of 3010 Cherokee, was arrested Sunday on warrants for expired registration (two counts).
Dimas Young, 70, of Big Spring died Friday, June 8, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
She was born March 26, 1942, at Uvalde, Texas, to Juanita and Bonifacio Gonzalez. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She was a lifetime resident of Uvalde until moving to Big Spring six months ago.
Annette “Anita” Hilario, 54, of Big Spring, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Martin County Hospital in Stanton. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
