Ermine Barrick, 78, of Ft. Worth, formerly of Stanton died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in a Dallas hospital. Her services are pending with Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
George Sloan, 82, of Big Spring died Thursday, June 7, 2012, in a local nursing home. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Jose V. Lopez, 84, of Big Spring died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at his residence. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. James Plagens, Deacon Victor Lopez and Deacon Johnny Arguello officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Florence Virginia Winfield, 73, of Big Spring died Monday, June 4, 2012, at her residence. She has gone to be with our Lord and Savior. The family will be holding a visitation Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel at 10 a.m. Dwain Fox will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
At least two Big Spring residents were arrested in connection with an apparent drug raid executed in the 800 block of Lorilla Wednesday evening, although law enforcement officials are releasing little information in the case.
Olivia Talietha Ballin, 32, of 805 Lorilla, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance — one gram or less and possession of marijuana — more than two ounces and less than four ounces.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• OLIVIA TALIETHA BALLIN, 32, of 805 Lorilla, was arrested Wednesday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana – more than two ounces and less than four ounces.
• JASON MAURICE THREATS, 34, of 805 Lorilla, was arrested Wednesday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana – more than two ounces and less than four ounces.
Dorothy Garrett Coliseum will be seeing some new renovations soon.
Thanks to a gift of $70,000, from Mike and Sheila Abussab of Abusaab Companies — local owners of Sonic restaurants — the Jirous Foundation and Winters Family Foundation, the coliseum floor will be replaced.
“We are thrilled to be able to make this upgrade to the coliseum,†Dr. Cheryl T. Sparks, Howard College president, said. “As this facility is used by the entire community, I know everyone will see a benefit from these generous gifts.â€
The prairie dogs will be coming out of their dens to watch the 7th annual Prairie Dog Fly-In Breakfast this weekend. The fly-in is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday at McMahon-Wrinkle Airport.
“This is something we started to give pilots a reason to come here and see our facility which in turn gave them a reason to come back,†Kelly Grant, assistant to the air park director, said.
About 100 aircrafts are expected to fly in from all over the Permian Basin, including Snyder, Lubbock, San Angelo and Midland/Odessa.
