The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
â¢RICHARD LEONARD MOYA, 37, of 610 Caylor Dr., was arrested Thursday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with previous conviction.
â¢ JOHN SCOTT BRICKER, 38, of 1203 N. FM 700 9, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for driving while license invalid (two counts).
â¢ AMANDA LYNN MORROW, 33, of 8900 S. Service Rd., was arrested Thursday on a warrant from other agency (x2).
A Big Spring man was killed and another injured early Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash in Andrews County on U.S. Highway 176 approximately eight miles east of FM 1788.
According to accident reports filed with the Regional Department of Public Safety Office in Midland, the accident was reported at approximately 7:38 a.m.
Zachary Dane Shepphard, 21, formerly of Sweetwater and who, according to unconfirmed reports, had just recently moved to the Big Spring area, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Andrews County Justice of the Peace Mary Jane Baeza.
Like many businesses in West Texas, Big Spring Independent School District is having to fight the competition for workers.
BSISD trustees learned during their special meeting Thursday that the district is facing a slightly larger-than-normal number of staff vacancies this summer. And the major reason for that, officials speculated, is simple economics.
âWe can't compete with salaries paid in Midland and Odessa and some other areas,â BSISD Superintendent Steven Saldivar told trustees. âWe lost some very good teachers this past year, and we're very concerned about that.â
Len Morgan of Big Spring died Wednesday morning, June 27, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating.
Born William Linnwood Morgan Jr. on May 19, 1956, in San Jose, Calif., he became a resident of Big Spring in 1993. Founding KTTK Recording Studio in 2004, Len enjoyed a life-long love of music and sharing that love with others.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Nita Clemmer Boyd, 97, of Richmond, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.
Nita was born May 6, 1915, in Callahan County to Robert Clemmer Sr. and Jesse Windland Clemmer. She passed away June 26, 2012, at her residence in Richmond.
Nita is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Boyd; parents, Robert and Jesse Clemmer; an infant son, Douglas Boyd; son-in-law, Gary James Tidwell; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Judy Randall, 61, of Big Spring died Thursday, June 28, 2012, at her residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Marietta Harris, 96, of Big Spring died Friday, June 29, 2012, at her residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Area residents can get a jump start on the upcoming July 4 holiday this weekend.
The 10th Annual Alon USA/Alon Brands Funtastic Fourth, presented by the Downtown Revitalization Association, will be held Saturday in the area surrounding the Howard County Courthouse.
Admission is free to the event, which will last from 10 a.m. until midnight.
Organizers promise a day filled with music, fun and food.
People can get a sneak peek of sorts Friday, when festival organizers preview a new event â the Swifty Swine pig races â at 7 p.m. in Heart of the City Park.

The 2012 Relay For Life community wrap-up event took place Tuesday in Garrett Hall at First United Methodist Church. A total $165,447.28 has been raised to date, officials said.
âThe season doesn't officially wrap up until Aug. 31, and we will take money until that time,â Relay For Life Chairman Manny Negron said. âThis year we fell short of our set money goal, but we reached our goal at the same time â¦ we were able to touch the lives of several survivors, caregivers, family members and community members.â

â¢ DIMITRI ANDREW LEOS, 20, of 710 E. 17th St., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of consumption of alcoholic beverage by a minor.
â¢ ALYSSA CRISELDA LOPEZ, 23, of 4204 Dixon, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
â¢ YENISSIA RAMERIZ VIERA, 27, of 1401 N. Highway 87, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
