Not so fast now …
Days after tentatively agreeing to take the reins of the Odessa Permian High School band program, Big Spring High School Band Director Rocky Harris has decided to remain at his current position.
Harris, who has overseen the BSHS band program for the past 17 years, had tentatively agreed to take the Permian post last week, but reversed his decision Monday.
Bennie Maurine Pittman, 58, of Big Spring died Sunday, June 24, 2012, in a Dallas hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Big Spring with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 18, 1954, in Fort Morgan, Colo., and married Gale Pittman.
Eugene Coleman, 68, of Midland passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland with the Rev. Joe Russo officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Coleman; daughter, Heather Bothe; and sons, Blaine Coleman and Craig Coleman.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.

Construction crews are sprinting toward the finish line in an effort to complete four new Big Spring elementary school campuses by early next month.
Big Spring Independent School District officials expect to take possession of the new schools by the middle of next month, officials said.
Retired teacher Pat DeAnda bested incumbent Maria Padilla to win the Big Spring Independent School District District 2 seat in Saturday's runoff election.
In extremely light voting, DeAnda edged Padilla by a 13-10 margin. Padilla had finished slightly ahead of DeAnda during the municipal election in May. However, since neither woman gained a majority of the vote total, a runoff election was ordered.
Padilla, first elected to the BSISD board in 2003, was seeking her fourth term as a trustee.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• DUNCAN STUBBS SMYLY, 54, of Richamond, Va., was arrested Saturday on a charge of disorderly conduct – language.
• CHRISTINA MUNIZ, 29, of 610 N.W. Sixth St. Apt. 118, was arrested Saturday on warrants for driving while license invalid and failure to appear.
• OSCAR HERNANDEZ, 51, of 506 Sgt. Paredez, was arrested Saturday on charges of public intoxication and shoplifting – more than $50 and less than $500.
Rebecca Valencia, 95, of Big Spring died Friday, June 22, 2012, in Houston. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
Graveside services for James Rogers, 63, of Brownwood, Texas, formerly of Big Spring, will be held 11 a.m.. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the Greenleaf Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. The family will receive friend from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Rogers passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
He was born on July 31, 1948, in Dallas to Dee Lawson and Margaret Frances Pierce Rogers. He was a retired truck driver and had lived in Brownwood for the past 10 years. He previously lived in Big Spring.
