Aristeo Hernandez, 81, of Big Spring died Monday, July 30, 2012, at his residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Ronald Louis Jones, 57, of Big Spring died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Private family viewing will be Tuesday, July 31, 2012, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Public viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. No other services have been planned.
He was born Jan. 20, 1955, to Mary and Johnny Jones in Seagraves, Texas. He had been a resident of Howard County for 30 years.
A light turnout is expected when Howard County voters go to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the state primary runoff election.
Five statewide contests â four Republican and one Democratic â will be decided.
Locally, only one polling place will be open Tuesday. Voters can cast ballots at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum on the Howard College campus between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., officials said.
Despite a late surge, early voting in the races was extremely light, with fewer than 4 percent of registered voters casting ballots, County Election Administrator Saundra Bloom said.
FORSAN â No school administrator is ever going to feel good about losing revenue, but some losses end up stinging less than others, it seems.
Such is shaping up to be the case for Forsan Independent School District, which is dealing with a 3 percent cut in state revenue as it prepares a budget for the coming fiscal year. In addition, the district also is facing an increase in the âRobin Hoodâ payment it must make to the state for being a so-called âproperty richâ school district.
The 2010 case against a Big Spring man convicted of taking part in a home invasion in the 600 block of State has been submitted to a panel of judges with the 11th Court of Appeals in Eastland, Texas, but a resolution to the appeal could be as long as six months away, according to court officials.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
â˘ JOE ALBERT CANALES, 28, of 1201 S. Johnson, was arrested Sunday on charges of assault â intentionally/recklessly impeding normal breathing or circulation â family violence, parent contributing to the non-attendance (two counts) and bail jumping â failure to appear.
â˘ STEVEN VALENCIA GAMBOA, 28, of 506 N. Nolan, was arrested Sunday on a warrant from another agency and a warrant for driving while license invalid.
