Officials with the 118th District Court are warning area residents of a telephone scam where con artists are claiming to be collecting fines from locals who allegedly owe fins for missing jury duty.
According to 118th District Judge Timothy Yeats, his office was recently made aware of the scam, which is targeting local residents.
STANTON — Stanton residents will focus on “Big Dreams in a Small Town” as a 79-year-old tradition continues this year — the Old Settlers Reunion returns July 14, 2012.

It is with a heavy heart that Charles and Patsy Cawthon announce the passing of their daughter. She joined our Lord in Heaven on June 26, 2012.
Cheryl Marie Cawthon was born in Wichita Kansas on April 19, 1955. She was a very pretty, outgoing gregarious child who never met a stranger. During her junior year of high school her father was transferred to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nev. It was there she would meet the love of her life and future husband, Martin Phillip Kight, whose father was also stationed at Nellis AFB.
Carrie Mae Matthews, 65, of Big Spring died Sunday, July 1, 2012, in a local hospital. Private services will be held at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
She was born March 25, 1947, in Grand Bay, Ala. Carrie Mae was a personal chef and also had served as chef for several restaurants in Mississippi. She moved to Big Spring in 2001 to be closer to family.
James Lee Henderson, 73, of Big Spring died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at his residence. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

The Texas Department of Public Safety have increased DWI patrols for a nine-day period which includes Wednesday, according to state officials, with troopers focusing DWI patrols in high-risk locations at times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.
Howard County residents will celebrate the July 4 holiday in ways both big and small over the course of the next few days.
Undoubtedly, the biggest community celebration occurs tonight, when the annual Pops in the Park, featuring music, food and fireworks, is held at the Comanche Trail Park Amphitheater.
Gates will open at 5 p.m., along with the food vendors which will be located at the top of the amphitheater.
Pre-show entertainment will be provided by former Big Spring resident Don Turner, who will perform Dixieland-style music from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• NINFA MORENO GARCIA, 56, of 1501 Sycamore, was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
• ALBERTO GALLEGOS, 22, of 505 N.W. 10th St., was arrested Monday on warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility, no driver's license – when unlicensed, failure to control speed, failure to appear and a warrant from another agency.
• TIMOTHY ALEX UNDERWOOD, 35, of 111 E. 16th St., was arrested Monday on a warrant from another agency.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Heath Hammonds at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church Christian Life Center in Lubbock. Our beloved Heath died June 29, 2012, after a seven year courageous battle with cancer.
Roger Dean Albertson, 80, of Big Spring died Saturday, June 30, 2012, after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel.
He was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Frankeville, Iowa. Roger served in the U.S. Navy as a draftsman before graduating from Iowa State University and starting a career teaching art and science to students in Iowa, California and Illinois. He worked as a national park ranger at Mt. Rainier, Wash., and at the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
He moved to Big Spring Feb. 3, 2005, from Florida.
