FORSAN — No school administrator is ever going to feel good about losing revenue, but some losses end up stinging less than others, it seems.
Such is shaping up to be the case for Forsan Independent School District, which is dealing with a 3 percent cut in state revenue as it prepares a budget for the coming fiscal year. In addition, the district also is facing an increase in the “Robin Hood” payment it must make to the state for being a so-called “property rich” school district.
The 2010 case against a Big Spring man convicted of taking part in a home invasion in the 600 block of State has been submitted to a panel of judges with the 11th Court of Appeals in Eastland, Texas, but a resolution to the appeal could be as long as six months away, according to court officials.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• JOE ALBERT CANALES, 28, of 1201 S. Johnson, was arrested Sunday on charges of assault – intentionally/recklessly impeding normal breathing or circulation – family violence, parent contributing to the non-attendance (two counts) and bail jumping – failure to appear.
• STEVEN VALENCIA GAMBOA, 28, of 506 N. Nolan, was arrested Sunday on a warrant from another agency and a warrant for driving while license invalid.

Red ink is trying to creep into Howard College's new budget.
Despite recent good financial news from the state of Texas, college officials are still faced with deficits as they prepare their new fiscal package, which will be the subject of a trustees' budget workshop set for 9:15 a.m. Monday in the student union building's Tumbleweed Room. The trustees' monthly meeting will follow the workshop at 12:15 p.m.
The flight may be over, but the lessons learned will continue.
Hangar 25 Air Museum recently concluded its 2012 session of Kid's Klub — Flight School. According to Museum Administrator Genevieve Stockburger, there were 28 children involved this year in the week long journey.
Allen E. Sundy, 85, of Big Spring, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Herb McPherson, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the funeral home.
He was born May 25, 1927, in Flomaton, Ala. and married Pauline “Polly” Harrell Sept. 4, 1947, in Big Spring. She preceded him in death April 24, 2002.
Paul DeLeon, 60, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
A vigil service will be at 7 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
He was born Dec. 23, 1951, in Ranger, Texas. Paul grew up and attended schools in Big Spring. He drove a truck for several different companies, returning to Big Spring in 1989 and then worked in construction for several years. He was a Catholic.
Annie Pearl Blake, 74, of Big Spring, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Her services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Ronald Jones, 57, of Big Spring, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. His services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
