Marlene Riffe, 58, of Forsan died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Coahoma Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 19, 1953, in Big Spring, Texas, to Melva and Joe Swinney. She was a lifetime resident of Howard County. She was a bus driver for Forsan Independent School District.

Jeffery David Stevenson

Jeffery David Stevenson, 40, of Big Spring, Texas, died Monday, July 16, 2012, in San Marcos, Texas.

He was born Aug. 26, 1971 in Big Spring, the son of David Stevenson of New Matamoras, Ohio, and Mary Stevenson of Barto, Pa.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Josh Moore; paternal grandfather, William Stevenson and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bard.

BSHS season tickets to go on sale

It's that time of year again.

Big Spring Steer football is around the bend and season tickets are going on sale July 23 and will be available until Aug. 17. You can pick up your season passes at the Athletic Training Center from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The cost will be $30 per ticket book, each ticket book contains six tickets — one for each home game.

Want to participate in firefighting training and riding along on calls? The Fire and Emergency Service Career Exploring program at the Big Spring Fire Department may be for you.

Fire and Emergency Service Career Exploring is open to young men and women ages 14 (and who have completed the eighth grade) and not yet 21 years old with an interest in learning more about careers in the field.

The Howard County Sheriff's Office reported the following activity Tuesday and early today (Note: The county detention center reported 76 prisoners):

• ROBIN LEON JORDAN, 44, was jailed on a charge of public intoxication.
• BRANDON LYNN WHITE, 24, was jailed on a charge of open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.
• RICARDO ARTEMYO URANGA SR., 53, was jailed on a bench warrant.
• WILLIAM JEROD FRANKS, 35, was jailed on a charge of failure to comply with sex offender regulations/registration.
• REBECCA LYNN COMSTOCK, 28, was jailed on charges of bail jumping and failure to appear.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.

ISD offers single-stop registration

Call it one-stop registration.

Parents of students new to the local school district will no longer have to visit multiple campuses to get their children registered, thanks to a move Big Spring Independent School District to consolidate those services under one roof.

The result is the Student Records and Registation office, located at the old Goliad Intermediate campus.

Two 2012 Big Spring High School graduates, Seth Trevino and Shawn Adams, have been accepted as members of the newly formed debate program at Ranger College.

"We're glad to have Big Spring represented on our roster." Jason Jordan, coach of the Ranger College team, said, "Big Spring has developed a reputation for producing successful debaters who are competitive both regionally and nationally."

With next year being the first year debate is offered at Ranger College, Trevino and Adams will be on the ground floor of what should be a quality program.
