An Odessa woman died Monday at a Lubbock hospital from injuries sustained in a near-drowning accident at Moss Creek Lake Sunday afternoon.
Wendy Barcomb, 50, of Odessa died Monday from her injuries, said Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer for the Big Spring Police Department.
According to Everett, emergency responders were dispatched to Moss Creek Lake at 3:06 p.m. Sunday after Barcomb became unresponsive in the water.
Even when it rains, area firefighters can't catch a break.
Lightning strikes are being blamed as the causes for a pair of wildfires that kept Howard County volunteer firefighters busy Sunday and Monday.
The first incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, when lightning sparked a grass fire along Elbow Creek Road near Lomax.
Tommy Sullivan, chief of the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department, said nine units â€” seven from his department and two from Glasscock County â€” battled the blaze for about four hours before it was extinguished.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
â€¢ JOEL RAMOS, 27, of 1515 Sycamore Apt. A, was arrested Monday on a warrant from another agency.
â€¢ JOSIE RODRIGUEZ, 28, of 5010 Wasson Rd., was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€¢ ROY GUERERRO CERVANTES JR., 33, of 1304 Nolan, was arrested Monday on charges of resisting arrest, search or transportation and public intoxication.
â€¢ ALICE RIOS GUZMAN, 39, of 700 Douglas, was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
Howard Donnelly Johnson, 77, of Odessa passed away Aug. 10, 2012. He was born June 15, 1935, in Honey Grove, Texas, to Fannie and Edgar Johnson. The family later moved to Ackerly, Texas.
He was a successful businessman in the automobile industry in West Texas for 40 years. He was salesman of the month for thirteen years in a row at a local automobile dealership. His career consisted of participation in the automobile industry in Big Spring and culminated in Odessa with Car City/Wholesale Connection. Howard was also a 32nd degree Mason.
Martin R. Cerna, 62, of Big Spring died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center. Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel in Big Spring, Texas, with Bobby Rivera officiating. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel with Rudy Perez officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
