After several months of searching for the right person to fit the bill, Howard College officials have announced the selection of Mary Karol Matchett as the new provost for their SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf campus.
Matchett, coming to SWCID from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology with more than 18 years of experience in the field of higher education, will be filling the position recently vacated by provost Mark Myers after his move back to the East Coast and the service of Dom Bonura as interim provost.
A year has already gone by and client base continues to grow.
Howard County Health Care Center is moving forward and expanding services and staff.
Dr. Judith Madura, CEO of Howard County Community Health Clinic, spoke on progress made during the first year at the center during the State of the Community Series Part 3: Medical Update.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ KEELIE BREANN PARKS, 21, of 1306 Monmouth, was arrested Monday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
â€˘ TANEKIA CAMILE STEPHENSON, 20, of 1002 N. Main St. Apt. 47, was arrested Monday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor.
â€˘ MARKUS DEWAYNE GRAVES, 27, of 1700 S. Johnson, was arrested Monday on a warrant from another agency and a charge of public intoxication.
Barbara Jean Vieira, 77, of Weatherford, formerly of Big Spring died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Memorial Park with Pastor Ron Liles officiating.
Barbara was born to Grady and Mary Gardner on July 3, 1935, in Birmingham, Ala. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Womenâ€™s International Bowling Congress. She worked for the Bowl-a-Rama for many years.
Guadalupe R. â€śLupeâ€ť Gonzales, 86, of Big Spring died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
She was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Del Rio, Texas, to Teodora and Felipe Ramirez. She moved to Big Spring in 1941and married Carmen Gonzales on Sept. 7, 1948, in Big Spring. He preceded her in death Feb. 6, 2007.
