Wash birth

August 11, 2012

Autumn Annette Wash, daughter of Brodie and Kaci Wash of Big Spring, was born July 20, 2012, at 2:45 p.m.
She weighed 6 pounds 2 ounces and measured 19 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Kathy Aycock of San Angelo and Mark and Sherleen Aycock of Menard.
Paternal grandparents are David and Lisa Hobbs of Big Spring and the late Billy Wash. Great grandmother is JoAnn Loudamy of Big Spring.
Autumn was welcomed home by her brother Brennan Wash.

Ward birth

August 11, 2012

Easton Troy Ward, son of Derek and Mendy Ward of Coahoma, was born July 3, 2012, at 8:05 a.m.
He weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces and measured 20 ½ inches long.
Maternal grandparents are James and Melinda Morgan of Coahoma. Paternal grandparents are Ronnie and Cathy Ward of Coahoma.

DeLeon birth

August 11, 2012

Xaiden Ray DeLeon, son of Elias and Erika DeLeon, was born Aug. 7, 2012, at 11:05 a.m.
He weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces and measured 19 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Cindy Rios-Tercero and Markus Garza. Paternal grandparents are Ray and Vicky DeLeon.
Xaiden was welcomed home by his sibling Sabastian Day DeLeon.

Local charged with assault & kidnapping

A 26-year-old Big Spring man is in the Howard County Detention Center, after authorities say he kidnapped a woman from a Midland bar Saturday and sexually assaulted her.

Jonathan Brandon Glenn, 26, of 601 State St., was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping.

According to Big Spring Police Chief Lonnie Smith, an adult female victim — with an address in Midland — reported the sexual assault and kidnapping around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

ISD addresses safety concerns, adds bus stops

Faced with the hazardous possibility of some students having to cross major traffic arteries on their way to school, Big Spring Independent School District officials have increased the number of bus stops for the coming year.

BSISD trustees learned of the new plan during their monthly meeting Thursday in the high school board room.

When the school district redrew its attendance zones earlier this year, officials quickly realized that some students would have to cross busy highways if they chose to walk to school.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL REECE, 34, of 1919 E. 11th Place, was arrested Thursday on warrants for expired motor vehicle inspection certificate, expired registration, speeding and failure to appear (three counts).
• SHIMEON RASHAD MAGERS, 29, of 1511 Tucson, was arrested Friday on warrants from other agency (x4).
• EDDIE GLENN OVERTON, 20, of 1808 N. CR 1330, was arrested Thursday on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.

ISDs fall short of fed standards

All three Howard County school districts received sub-par ratings in the latest round of federal accountability listings.

Almost three quarters of Texas' public school district failed to meet Average Yearly Performance (AYP) benchmarks this year, according to information released Wednesday by the Texas Education Agency.

TEA noted that only 28 percent of the state's school districts — and 44 percent of individual campuses — received passing AYP marks this year, a fact the agency blamed on a substantial increase in requirements.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• SETH SAVAGE SLAYTON, 19, of 506 N. Second St., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of aggravated robbery.
• BERNARDO FRAUSTO PEREZ JR., 48, of 2910 Cherokee St., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• JENNIFER CANALES, 25, of 2605 W. Dow, was arrested Wednesday on charges of manufacture delivery of controlled substance between four grams and 200 grams, failed to maintain financial responsibility and no drivers license when unlicensed.

Annette Howard

Annette Howard, 75, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Walter McCall officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at the funeral home.

Annette was born Jan. 19, 1937, in Tarzan, Texas. She retired from Pollard Chevrolet-Buick-Cadillac as office manager after 50 years of service.

She was a member of Baptist Temple.
