The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ JERRY LIN WHITE, 43, of 1200 N. FM 700, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for accumulated items/weeds/rubbish.
â€˘ RAY MARTINEZ ALVARADO, 35, of 1500 Lincoln, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
â€˘ AMBER LYNN JAMES, 21, of 3810 Rice Rd., was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for failure to maintain financial responsibility.
Manuel De Los Rios, 79, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at Hospice of Midland Inpatient Unit. Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel with Elder Eliseo Gamboa officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lamesa Cemetery in Lamesa, Texas, with Trinidad Sanchez officiating.
COAHOMA â€” Some Coahoma Independent School District residents will see an increase in their tax bill this coming fiscal year.
During their Tuesday night meeting, CISD trustees approved a budget and tax rate for the 2012-2013 fiscal year that will result in an increase in local revenue for the school district.
The tax rate will remain the same at $1.27 per $100 property valuation. Of that figure, $1.04 will be devoted to maintenance and operating costs, while the remainder is targeted for debt service.
Testimony in the trial of a 27-year-old Big Spring man facing multiple charges â€” including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon â€” is set to continue in 118th District Court this morning, as proceedings enter the second day.
Brian Christopher Lewis, 27, currently being held at the Howard County Detention Center, was indicted Feb. 3 on charges of deadly conduct, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

â€˘ ISAAC NATHAN RIOS, 22, of 2000 E. 11th Place, was arrested Tuesday on two warrants from other agencies.
â€˘ CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 3300 block of E. FM 700.

William Dale Dupree II, 37, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at his residence. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
The Lady Steers improved their volleyball record to 6-4 Tuesday after back-to-back wins over Lubbock High and Andrews.
With a tough, non-district schedule, BSHS Head Coach Lynn Osborne said in an earlier interview that her team â€śMay rack up quite a few losses,â€ť before district action begins in Sept. The Lady Steers, however, have now won four straight matches.

As area students prepare to go back to school for the fall semester, local emergency officials are urging parents and guardians to take time to ready children for their daily trek to class.
Big Spring Fire Department Chief Craig Ferguson said many children will be making the trip to school each day on foot and called for parents and motorists to do their part to watch out for local youth.

Forsan Superintendent Randy Johnson is extending an invitation to all residents of Howard County to attend the Forsan Superintendent's Prayer Breakfast, a tradition started when Johnson took over the head position.
